The public is invited to a night-time guided walking tour of the haunted sites throughout the Groton Bank neighborhood Oct. 23. The rain date is Oct. 24. Guides will tell ghost stories and folklore inspired by events that took place in the Groton Bank National Register Historic District, while leading their tours to the local spooky nooks and crannies. The Avery-Copp House, Mother Bailey House, the Bill Memorial Library, Fort Griswold and the Ebenezer Avery House are on the tour.
Tours take about an hour and cover approximately one mile, including some steep hills and uneven ground. Those taking the tours are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a flashlight.
Tours depart from the Avery-Copp House at 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM.
Proceeds from the tours will support the restoration of the Mother Bailey House, an historic house located at 108 Thames Street whose celebrated owner, according to legend, contributed her petticoat for flannel wadding during the War of 1812, among other heroic and patriotic deeds.
